Energy company E.ON is planning to build a gas-fired power station, which would be the same size as its recently shelved coal-powered plant at Kingsnorth.
An E.ON spokesman confirmed to The Times that the company was carrying out a “scoping study” for the construction of a 1,600 megawatt gas power station at High Marnham in Nottinghamshire.
The company is said to have unveiled these new plans last month but earlier this month announced that it has put plans to build a new coal-fired power station at Kingsnorth on hold for as long as three years.
The energy giant told Construction News electricity demand had fallen due to the recession and a new plant was now not needed in the UK until around 2016.
E.ON has submitted a statement outlining its plans for High Marnham to Nottinghamshire County Council and a full planning application is expected next year.
