French-owned contractor Alstom, which is controversially using foreign workers to build the new Staythorpe power station, has today said it will “actively look” to hire more British staff.
The firm announced it would be looking for qualified welders from the Nottinghamshire area to take up between 10 and 20 new posts at the site.
It said it planned to begin interviewing for the roles over the next two weeks, with a view to having them filled by the end of next month.
Last month, Alstom faced angry protests from British workers who alleged they had been over-looked in favour of foreign labour on the scheme.
But Alstom denied that it discriminated against Britons.
