ST BOB GELDOF: “GO NUCLEAR TO HELP SAVE THE PLANET”

Bob Geldof has come out strongly in favour of nuclear power, dismissing renewable energy sources as 'Mickey Mouse' alternatives to fossil fuels.
The musician and poverty campaigner said Britain would 'soon have to scramble for more nuclear power'.
"We may mess around with wind and waves and other renewable energy sources, trying to make them sustainable, but they're not. They're Mickey Mouse," he wrote in a blog on www.thehybriddebate.com.
"To really help the planet, we have to go nuclear, fast."
However, he added that greener modes of transport such as hybrid cars had 'a significant part to play in reducing emissions'.
Geldof posted his comments a day after the Government announced plans to build 7,000 wind turbines along the coast to supply power to every British home by 2020, which would meet nearly a third of the country's electricity needs.
