EDF Energy is in talks with former energy minister John Hutton, who had been a strong advocate for building new nuclear power stations, to use him as an adviser.
French energy giant EDF is hoping to lead the roll-out of new nuclear power stations in the UK, although its EPR design has been subject to severe delays in Olkiluoto in Finland, and overruns and possible delays at Flamanville in northern France.
in In a statement, the company said: “EDF Energy can confirm it has been in discussions with John Hutton MP about him advising the company. However nothing has been concluded at this stage and any decision would require approval by the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments.

“EDF Energy set up a Stakeholder Advisory Panel in 2006. Its role is to allow our chief executive and senior management to draw on the experience of eminent and diverse senior advisors outside of EDF Energy to discuss key strategic issues and their impact on our business. Current members of the panel are Will Hutton, Lord Patten of Barnes, Diane Coyle, John Roberts and Simon Robertson.”
