Two windfarm developments with the capacity to power approximately 43,000 homes have been approved for building by the Scottish Government.
The first build is the Berry Burn wind farm, with 29 turbines and a capacity of 78 megawatts, which will be built on the Altyre Estate near Forres. It will be followed by six turbines being added to the Millennium wind farm near Fort Augustus.
A total of 34 renewable project applications, including nine hydro projects, are being considered by the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents and Deployment Unit.
Energy minister Jim Mather said: “I am delighted to approve further investment to develop our vast natural potential, create more jobs and fuel the clean, green energy revolution.
“Our comprehensive climate change laws demand that we continue to support good projects that reduce emissions and help Scotland become a global role model for a sustainable, low carbon economy.”
Some 30 applications for energy production, including 24 renewable projects, have been approved by the Scottish Government since May 2007, up from just 19 approvals in the previous four years.
