Petition against new Kingsnorth station to be handed to Govt

A petition of some 1,600 names opposed to the new coal-fired power station at Kingsnorth in Kent is to be handed to the Government.

The petition will be presented to energy secretary Ed Miliband tomorrow by Medway Labour MP Bob Marshall-Andrews.
Planning approval for the station is on hold while the Government conducts consultations on coal power and carbon capture and storage initiatives.
An announcement on the consultations is hoped to be made by Mr Miliband later this year.
