Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council have granted energy technology business Energos planning permission to build a gasification plant.
Energos, working in a £75 million partnership with renewable energy company BioGen Power, will provide a facility capable of handling Doncaster’s local waste, rather than sending it to a landfill site.
The gasification plants around the country have enjoyed speedy planning approval, with the six applications to date all being approved within months. Doncaster took just five months to secure planning permission.
The most recent Energos site is on the Isle of Wight, while five other plants are located in Newport, Irvine, Lincolnshire and Knowsley.
Energos managing director Nick Dawber said: “Residents, businesses and local government recognise that it’s not possible to continue sending waste to landfill and our 100% planning record suggests that they are prepared to accept appropriately sized, new generation technology solutions to deal responsibly with their own waste.”
