North Dorset District councillors have rejected a plan to build six wind turbines at what is described as a “rural beauty spot”.
At a planning meeting yesterday, the councillors rejected a plan from Ecotricity to build the 120 m turbines in Silton.
BBC News reported that North Dorset District councillors had gone against their own planning officer’s recommendation to approve the scheme.
Chairman of campaign group Save Our Silton Christopher Langham said: “The character of this beautiful landscape will be changed and the views from the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty will be spoilt.
“Most importantly, the nearest houses are less than 550m away from the turbines.”
Many wind farm projects have been dogged by planning issues.
