Construction recruitment in energy and utilities sector looks bright

Graduates looking for construction jobs in the energy, water and utilities sectors have received a boost after it was revealed that the number of vacancies has increased by 7.1 per cent.
A survey from the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) suggested that these were the best sectors for construction recruitment over the coming months.
By contrast, the engineering sector has seen its number of vacancies cut by 40 per cent, although the IT and banking industries were the hardest hit.
It was also revealed that 91.9 per cent of employers are expecting to fill their vacancies this year - which is a stark contrast to last year's construction shortfalls.
AGR chief executive Carl Gilleard explained that, on the whole, graduates will find their search for jobs harder this year.
Thankfully, university leavers looking to enter the energy and utilities sectors will have more choice.
"It is important to look at this in context and to point out that very few employers have abandoned their graduate recruitment programmes altogether and most are likely to reinstate recruitment levels at the first sign of an upturn in the economy," he said.
The AGR said yesterday (July 14th) that blue collar workers were more likely to feel the effects of the recession than white collar workers.
