National Grid begins Windsor gas mains construction work

A National Grid-Morrison Utility Services partnership has initiated construction work on a major gas mains upgrade in Windsor. Those in construction jobs are replacing 533m of gas mains in the town's Leonard's Road and Victoria Street. The existing iron pipes will be replaced with hardier, long-lasting ones, which will allow homes and businesses in Windsor to benefit from safe and reliable gas supplies over the coming years.
Kevin Wood, National Grid's project engineer, apologised for any temporary inconvenience that the construction work may cause.
"Once installed the new plastic pipes should last for many years and this essential work will ensure local people enjoy safe and secure gas supplies in the years ahead," he commented. Engineers hope to limit the amount of disruption by installing most of the new pipes into the existing ones, which means that fewer holes will need to be dug.
Next week National Grid will begin a £177,000 engineering project in the station road area of Harpenden in a similar gas mains upgrade initiative.
