EDF plans work on nuclear plants before 2013

EDF could start preliminary work on the two sites it has earmarked for new nuclear reactors at Hinkley Point in Somerset and Sizewell in Suffolk before it gains full site licenses in 2013.
According to a report in The Times, it has already begun drawing up plans for the two sites.
In a statement, the French energy company said it was planning “to carry out a range of pre-construction preparatory work before 2013”.
Work could include ground levelling, the erection of flood barriers and excavation to prepare the foundations for the new plants.
EDF insisted it would “only undertake work for which it has all the necessary approvals”.
