E.ON: The German utility unveiled a cost-cutting drive to save €1.5 billion (£1.3 billion) by 2011 and warned that jobs could go as it announced writedowns of €3.3 billion on the value of businesses from North America to Italy. - The Times

National Grid: The group, which operates Britain’s high-voltage electricity transmission and gas distribution networks, is planning to construct a £2 billion carbon transport and storage network around the Humber estuary in Yorkshire, where five of the country’s largest coal and gas-fired power stations are located. - The Times

Utility companies could face a deluge of lawsuits over service failings after a landmark court ruling against British Gas over the alleged prolonged harassment of one its former customers.
Lisa Ferguson, a self-employed property investor from Kent, is seeking £10,000 damages from the energy group after it threatened to cut off her gas supply and report her to credit rating agencies, even though she had switched providers months earlier. - The Financial Times

Unemployed construction workers plan to protest at two power stations as union leaders said that the row over foreign workers remains unresolved. A series of wildcat strikes ended last week after a deal in North Lincolnshire, but new protests will be held in Nottinghamshire and Kent - The Times
